PLAY THEATER'S WINTER 2025 PRODUCTION OPENS JAN 24TH AND 25TH!
Critically acclaimed on both the West End and Broadway, Groundhog Day is inspired by the hilarious film starring Bill Murray. It features a book by the original co-screenwriter Danny Rubin and music and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Tim Minchin (Matilda the Musical).
The cheery townsfolk of Punxsutawney, PA, are ready for their favorite groundhog to predict an early spring. After disdainfully covering the rodent's negative forecast, Phil Connors, a seasoned big-city weatherman, awakens the next day only to discover it's February 2—again. And again. And again. Will Phil accept that he is doomed to repeat the same day over and over, or will he find the courage to change himself and his fate?
The large, hard-working and talented cast consists of kids primarily from Scotch Plains and Fanwood. These 2nd- through 9th-grade students auditioned for roles and began rehearsals in early November.
The outstanding production team includes sets by Joshua and Lisa Marcus; dance captain and costumes by Mackenzie Fiore; assistant stage management by Aurelia Koller; stage management by Keira Hoey; assistant direction by Grayson Kelly; musical direction by Kristen O’Grady; and choreography and direction by Play Theater Founder and Director, Amy Fiore.
Dates and showtimes are Friday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Performances take place at duCret School of Art, a beautiful mansion and New Jersey's oldest art school, located at 1030 Central Avenue in the historic, residential Van Wyck section of Plainfield.
